Knowledge Society – 4 levels

What is the meaning of the term “Knowledge Society”?

A knowledge society can be understood at four levels

Level 1 definition of a knowledge society is one which is “information-driven”. One where information / communication / networks / and continuous monitoring enables people to take better / faster / more data-based decisions.

Level 2 definition of a knowledge society is one where “education and training” become dominant forces, i.e., a society where human beings are systematically and effectively given the knowledge / skills / concepts, etc. by which they are able to think better / act better / produce better / and interact better.

Level 3 definition of a knowledge society is one where people are able to learn, evolve, and respond to change, challenges, and new requirements.
In such a society, just-in-time learning / ongoing development of response capacities / and continuous education become the dominant models of continuous societal growth.
In such a society, effective use and tacit knowledge are the dominant idea.

Level 4 definition of a knowledge society is one where use of “reflexive knowledge” becomes the dominant mode of learning, doing, engaging, and decision-making.
Reflexive knowledge is the dynamic between the individual and society.
Through reflexive knowledge humans evolve in relation to the changing circumstances, i.e., there is a growth within and outside at the same time, leading to a more harmonious and sustainable development of humankind.
